Being open to possibilities Vs having goals
by Amir ZoghiI frequently get asked this question; “should we have goals for the future, would we fail if we didn’t set goals”. This is a very interesting question and depending on how conscious you are will determine your understanding of the answer I give.
When you were a child and you wanted something, you would cry for it or demand it. You didn’t understand the possibility of not having what you wanted. As you grew into adulthood you learned that if you wanted something you couldn’t just demand it, you would have to work for it. You would set you eyes on something by setting a goal and you would make a every attempt to accomplish your goal. Once your goal was accomplished then you would set the next bigger goal.
Along your journey, some of your goals you achieved and others would let you down because you just couldn’t make it happen. This would then determine if you would be happy or not. It would also determine if you were perceived in your eyes and in the eyes of others of being a success or deemed to be a failure.
Further more, when you didn’t achieve your goals, you would beat your self up and compare your outcome with the results of others and justify why you are now not good enough. Or you would get up, dust yourself off and try again, right? Well good for you, my question however is what happens when the next time you fail to achieve your goal. Let me guess, you do it all over again. That’s life, right? You set your goals and you go after them and if you didn’t achieve them, then you go after it again or simply play the victim to its failure. Just like a dog chasing its own tail; it will never actually catch its tail. If it does, it can’t hold on to it for long so it lets go of it and then start chasing it all over again.
On the other hand; what about those things you accomplished, gained or achieved where you actually didn’t set goals for? They just showed up, with ease and grace. So how did they take place if you didn’t set goals for them? Where did they come from? What is really just a fluke, luck or synchronicity?
Would you like to bring more synchronicity into your life? Yes, are you sure? Ok then, this is what you must do. Let go of all your goals and just be open to all possibilities. That is when synchronicities take place in your life, when you are completely open to all possibilities. When you are set for only one outcome then you are not being open to all possibilities, you are only open to one outcome and that’s the outcome of your goal.
Yes my friend, you are reading this right. Have you ever experienced having beginners luck? Where you try something for the first time and have no reference on how you should do it and no pressure on the outcome? You simply show up and you are completely open to the possibilities and then, WOW you surprise yourself! Then, after amazing yourself with your effortless result, you find yourself thinking about improving upon your result. You set a goal consciously or maybe unconsciously to improve on your previous result and what do you know, you’re just not getting the same effortless outcome. You then justify what happened by saying it was beginners luck.
What I’m trying to tell you is not that you should or shouldn’t set goals. What I’m saying is that setting goals is only important when you need to be in control of your life. What I’m also trying to allude to is that once you “Know the Truth of who you are’; you would not need to be the controller of life. Just like you don’t need to control the sunrise or where your next breath is coming from, you are simply being open to its possibilities and it just happens. You are not setting a goal for the sun to come up again tomorrow nor are you setting a goal for your next breath. It just shows up. Why would you think that you need to set goals for anything else? Because you are trying to control the outcome. Do you really think you are in control of the outcome? You are only in control of how you respond to the outcome.
When you are open to the possibilities of what is, you open your life to synchronicities. You open yourself to do what comes naturally to you and not what you think you need to do because of an agenda you may have to satisfy your cravings. That’s when control is something that happens naturally through you but to have that you have let go of trying to have control. “You can have anything you want as long as you don’t need it” As soon as you need it, you try to control the outcome and get in the way of the universal flow.
Goals are only cravings to satisfy all that you perceive to lack in your life. On the other hand; an intention is an authentic desire that comes from an intuitive feeling. It is something that flows through you and comes to you naturally with fulfilment and not lack. Goals on the other hand are driven with the agenda to satisfy your cravings that are enticed by the perceived lack in your life.
When you set goals to satisfy a conscious or unconscious craving (need), you naturally create an attachment to the goal and what ever you are attached to will ultimately control you. When you are open to all possibilities you are naturally detached from all outcomes. This allows you to become one with the possibilities of the natural universal flow, we call this. The effect of this is what we call synchronicities.
Let go of your cravings, let go of what you think must have in order to be happy and shall have let go of your attachments. Be open to all possibilities and know that you are safe, no matter what. Be open to the flow of life and you shall become open to the freedom that you thought your goals were one day going to give you.
With Love,
